Marketing

A strategic focus and long-term commitment on your part will be required to successfully market your own book. The following tips are designed to help you spread the word about your upcoming book release, as well as tips for hosting a successful book launch.

Book Marketing Tips

  • Book trade show booths at local, inexpensive events where you can host signings and raise awareness about your book release.
  • Create a poster that includes a short synopsis, cover photo and information about where signings will be and/or books are sold. Post them at billboard locations in your community, including the library, mall, post office, etc.
  • Send an email to your family and friends letting them know the book is for sale.
  • You may want to look at creating an ad that you can place on social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter.
  • Book talk show interviews on community stations, such as CTV’s morning show or Access Communication’s Talk of the Town.
  • Send a media release out about your book release and/or launch to local radio, newspaper and television stations, as well as magazines that promote local authors.

Book Launch Tips

  • Contact a local bookstore, library or coffee shop about hosting a launch event for your new book. Make sure that you find out how much it will cost and whether they will provide food or drinks for the event.
  • Create an agenda for the event.
  • Make sure that you bring at least a couple of boxes of books to sell (and don’t forget the pens for signing!)
  • Ensure you have water, a table and chair(s) at the front for the signing/reading portion of the event, as well as chairs for your guests.
  • Promote. Promote! Let everyone you know about the signing and encourage them to let others know as well. Setting up an RSVP system may be wise if you’re planning to serve food (dainties) and drinks (coffee/tea/juice).
  • It’s also a good idea to promote the launch through posters, media releases, ads and talk shows, if possible.
  • Good luck and enjoy your book launch!
